The Sean and Tarra Ajayi Foundation has awarded scholarships to 20 students of Femi Gbajabiamila Junior & Senior Secondary School, Ikate, Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos State.
In a statement, the foundation explained that, in partnership with The Ever Forward Club, it also launched the Million Mask Movement workshop at the office of the Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Authority, Mr Odunayo Daniel.
The Principal of Femi Gbajabiamila Junior & Senior Secondary School, Mrs Florence Olodeoku, was also present.
The scholarships and the Million Mask Movement are part of the foundation’s programmes aimed at building human capital and encouraging brilliant students.
The foundation was initiated by Sean and Tarra Ajayi, Nigerians who relocated with their parents to the United States following the June 12, 1993, political crisis.
During the scholarship presentation, Sean’s mother, Amina Labinjo-Ajayi, emphasised the importance of investing in education for social and economic development.
She expressed pride in her children’s involvement in human capital development and giving back to society, describing it as the legacy of their family.
Labinjo-Ajayi called on other former students to contribute to their alma mater.
“I’m so happy my son is doing this. All my children are involved because they said they took after me. As my mother asked me, I want all fellow Diasporans to come back home and assist the present administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revamp the economy, especially our primary and secondary schools,” she said.
Sean Ajayi, co-initiator of the foundation with his wife Tarra, explained that the scholarships and initiatives are designed to empower Nigerian youth through mentorship and educational support.
He said, “As part of our commitment, the Sean and Tarra Ajayi Foundation also awarded scholarships to 30 deserving students, supporting their academic pursuits. The Million Mask Movement is designed to bridge the wellness and education gap, foster authentic leadership, and create safe, scalable spaces for Nigerian youth.
“Scholarship recipients and participants will access vital Social-Emotional Learning workshops, equipping them for academic and life challenges. We aim to nurture a generation of leaders who are brilliant, resilient, and emotionally well-adjusted.
“This movement will expand into more schools and youth centres, providing proven tools for mentors to address mental health and reduce isolation. This initiative is a powerful investment in Nigeria’s future, ensuring our youth thrive and lead positive change.”
He acknowledged collaboration with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
School principal Olodeoku expressed gratitude for the scholarships, noting their alignment with the Lagos State Government’s agenda.
“This will go a long way in achieving the state’s goals. Children are the leaders of tomorrow, and education is key to success. I urge others who can contribute to do so. A big thank you to the Sean and Tarra Ajayi Foundation; what they have done here is truly remarkable,” she said.
The scholarship beneficiaries lauded the foundation and appealed for more initiatives of this nature.
