Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has hosted three of the victorious Super Falcons players of Abia origin who were part of the winners of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations played in Morocco.
Those hosted by the Governor were a Miracle Ofem, who plays for the State-owned Abia Angels football club, Esther Okoronkwo, who plays for AFC Toronto, Canada and Christy Ucheibe of FC Benfica, Portugal (represented by her father).
In his speech while receiving the players, Governor Alex Otti thanked the soccer stars for making Abia State and Nigerian proud, noting that Abia has been a state for champions.
He said previous plans by the state government to host the Super Falcons players did not work out because the players were in a hurry to return to their bases.
Governor Otti, who stated that his government likes to celebrate people who have done well so that others would emulate them, assured the victorious Falcons that if they continue to win, he would celebrate them the more.
Responding on behalf of others, one of the victorious Super Falcons, Miracle Ofem thanked the Governor and Abia people for their support to the team and for hosting them in Abia, saying that the encouragement helped the Super Falcons to triumph.
Super Falcons had come back from 2-0 down to beat hosts, Morocco 3-2 in the Women’s African Cup of Nations finals.
