A Kansas City sports talk radio host got an earful from Taylor Swift fans after he threw shade at her fiancé, Travis Kelce.
“The Nasty Swifties found a post of mine again 🤯,” Pete Mundo, who hosts KCMO’s Mundo in the Morning, wrote via X on Sunday, December 21, responding to the backlash.
The social media uproar was in response to a post Mundo made earlier in the day on Sunday, when he criticized Kelce’s habit of refusing to speak to reporters after games this season.
“WILL TRAVIS KELCE TALK TO THE MEDIA AFTER THIS LOSS? -200 odds he passes, per usual, after a loss,” Mundo wrote. “Hope I’m wrong.”
The post immediately earned the ire of many fans within Chiefs Kingdom.
“He hardly had the ball, so shut up,” one person responded. “Maybe [others] who played bad and had a hand in the game should speak. Why is he the only one you care about speaking, do you need his attention or something.”
Another wrote, “I don’t understand your priorities. Wouldn’t you want to hear from those who had an impact on the game? Coaches? Trav barely had looks today. There’s no story there.”
“He barely got to play today,” one fan argued. “What do you want him to say? Talk to the 3rd string QB. Ask him if he is ready for the Broncos. Leave Travis be. That team forgot he is even there.”
The Chiefs, who have been eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2014, lost to the Tennessee Titans 26-9 on Sunday, Kansas City’s sixth loss in seven games.
For the record, it does not appear that Kelce spoke to reporters after the loss.
Kelce, 36, only had one catch for six yards on four targets in the game, during which the Chiefs were forced to use third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun after backup quarterback Gardner Minshew suffered a leg injury in the first half.
Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL during Kansas City’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14 and will miss the rest of the season.
Kelce refused to talk to the media after the Chargers loss, which earned the disapproval of ESPN’s Chris Russo.
“Hold on now. Timeout,” Russo said on ESPN’s First Take on December 15. “We got these poor guys who have been covering the Chiefs for years, who go to every training camp, practice, every preseason game. Every day for seven months they cover the football team and you blow them off at the end of this game when they got Mahomes out? Maybe the last game you’re ever gonna play [with him]? You can’t give them three words? You can’t give them, ‘Terrible day for us, I don’t know what I’m going to do with my career? Hopefully Pat will be OK.’”
Russo, 66, continued, “You blow everybody off walking off the field and you don’t talk to the press and you get in the car? That is wrong. That is not the way to do things. You give them five minutes. Give them a couple of sentences for the Chiefs fans. Really down on him.”
The Chiefs have two games remaining on their schedule: Christmas Day at home against the Denver Broncos and a season finale on the road on January 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
From there, Kelce will have to decide if he wants to retire or come back for another season.
