Uganda striker Melvyn Lorenzen has warned Nigeria and other Group C opponents that the Cranes will make things difficult at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Paul Put’s side will face Tunisia, Tanzania and Nigeria in the group stage, with the Super Eagles and Carthage Eagles considered favourites to progress.
However, Lorenzen insisted Uganda would give their opponents a run for their money when the tournament kicks off in Morocco.
“Even against the big nations, it’s always a good result. We’ve never gone under, they’ve always shown themselves in a good light. So, I think any team that comes won’t be comfortable playing us. It’s time to prove that again,” Lorenzen told the Uganda Football Association official website.
Uganda will open their campaign against Tunisia next Tuesday before confronting Tanzania and Nigeria. The Cranes, who missed the last two editions in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, are making their eighth appearance at the AFCON finals.
Nigeria, runners-up at the last edition in Ivory Coast, will face Uganda on December 31 in what promises to be a tough Group C encounter in Fez. The Super Eagles have historically struggled against the Cranes, most notably in 1978 when Philip Omondi scored both goals to eliminate Nigeria in the semi-finals in Ghana.
