Camille Razat departed Emily in Paris after playing Camille for several years — but how did season 5 write her off?
Netflix premiered the newest installment of episodes on Friday, December 18, which didn’t address Camille’s absence. When audiences last saw her on season 4, Camille had confessed to Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) that she wasn’t actually pregnant with his baby after previously keeping the details of her false positive under wraps. She seemed determined to start her own family but no update was given after Emily (Lily Collins) briefly moved to Rome while Gabriel remained in Paris.
Razat, 31, was introduced as Gabriel’s love interest when the show debuted in 2021. After the season 4 finale aired in September 2024, creator Darren Starr played coy on what role Camille could play in the show going forward.
“Characters can come in and out of a series, but you don’t necessarily have to see them. We may or may not,” he told TVLine at the time. “I don’t know how much of Camille we’ll see next season. But again, she’s part of the world of the series. I’m not sure how soon we’ll see her, but it doesn’t mean, again, that we won’t be seeing her.”
News subsequently broke in April that Razat was stepping back from Emily in Paris. The actress broke her silence on the decision in a statement.

“After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris,” Razat told TVLine that same month. “It has been a truly wonderful experience — one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories. I’m deeply grateful to Darren Star and the entire team at Netflix and Paramount for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to bring Camille to life and leaving the door open for her return, as she will always be a part of Emily in Paris world.”
In the comments section, Razat received an outpouring of support. “Love you sister,” Collins, 36, replied. “It’s been a wild ride and an absolute pleasure. You’re a rockstar. So proud of you.”
Bravo, 37, called Razat “my sister,” while Bruno Gouery added, “We’ll miss you.” Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu also shared a sweet response, writing, “You’ll be so missed ma chérie.”
Ashley Park noted that she is “always proud” of Razat, with Lucien Laviscount writing a lengthy heartfelt message.
“From day one you’ve been my rider on this show,” he shared. “Your passion for story telling, your dark sense of humour, your unwavering ability to stay true to yourself, when everything’s pushing you in a different direction. You’re special Camille and I feel absolutely honoured to [have] been able to dance with you these past seasons. Keep on shining. I’m going to miss laughing with you. I’m cheering you on in everything you do.”
A casting director for Emily in Paris later shed new insight into Razat’s shocking exit from the show.
“She wanted to take a little break,” Juliette Ménager told Variety in August. “But she could maybe come back.”
Ménager continued: “As Darren told me — from his experience on long-running shows like Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place or Sex and the City — the cast becomes a family, and it’s like with your family, sometimes you need a little breather and then you come back,” Razat added.
